Laurie Kaye holds a singular, bittersweet claim to fame. She was part of the team that interviewed John Lennon and Yoko Ono on December 8th, 1980. As they left the interview, she was accosted by a fan peppering her with questions about Lennon.

That man assassinated Lennon moments later. The story of her life as both a fan and a writer is captivating, from producing an award-winning radio series on the Beatles to hanging out with Paul and Linda McCartney, her talent has taken her far, and this book is a great read! I’m sure she wishes, as we all do that the tragic events of December 8th hadn’t occurred, but kudos to her for dealing with it, and rising above.

On December 8th 1980, music journalist Laurie Kaye got to meet and interview her music idol and Beatles legend, John Lennon. But just a matter of hours after the interview came to a close at the Dakota Building in New York City, John Lennon was shot and killed.
For this article I got to speak with Laurie about her new book, Confessions of a Rock 'n' Roll Name-Dropper: My Life Leading Up to John Lennon's Last Interview, in which Laurie reflects upon a life in the music industry, on the childhood that led her there, and on the lasting impact of that tragic day in New York City.
